February: Last Entry

Happy second month of the year! Here’s my most recent cover (Dear You) if you haven’t seen it.

Ok, now that you’ve checked that out, back to business. You’re probably looking at the title of this post and wondering why I named it that. Well, the truth is, after doing these blog entries for half a year, I’ve decided to stop doing monthly blogs and move onto something new. I’m experimenting and trying different things to see what works best and what doesn’t work. Thanks to everyone who reads my posts, I hope you enjoyed reading them! (: These blog entries will still remain available for anyone to read, but no more new monthly blog entries will be written. I will still continue to post lyrics and all that jazz here, so don’t worry. (Who knows, something better might happen later, I’m still working out the details).

A part of me embraces the freedom I have as a hobbyist cover artist. I work hard, but I don’t have to adhere to strict schedules or quotas like some people I know do. I have high respect for their dedication and skill, don’t get me wrong. I just can’t force myself to do something if I no longer see the purpose or if what motivated me no longer does. Which is why being true to yourself and enjoying and feeling passionate about what you do is super important. And sometimes, a break is just nice to have in order to recharge and come back with something even greater. It’s incredible how far hobbyist cover artists have advanced through the years, is it even possible to keep up? (lol). I’ll just keep doing me ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ Please continue to root for me.

Some notable things that happened this month is that big collab I’ve been gushing about since who-knows-how-long, and it’s Blessing!

And the collab tutorial I gave a short comment on last month is also available here if you have yet to see it or somehow missed it.

Anime & Games

If you’ve been following me on Twitter, you’ve probably seen me cry-tweeting about Undertale. I’ve played through the neutral run and the true pacifist run and had a great time. Currently going through the genocide run and I don’t know what to expect! And to conclude, the rest will play itself out 😉

January: Return of Japanese Covers

First of all, happy new year and I hope you’re having a productive 2016.

Does anyone still bother to make new years resolutions? I figured there was no point because it all becomes a pretense to inevitably failing and disappointing yourself. Not to say that having goals is bad, but new years resolutions are notorious for failing even when the person is highly determined. This could be because we set the goal too high or maybe it was something we were only half hearted about. So…let’s do it differently and continue to work and improve by challenging yourself but not be demanding. It sounds harder than it actually is, so don’t worry about it.

This month, Dream Fireworks and Hello, Shooting-star was released and both were in Japanese (I’m surprised too)!

The last time I did a Japanese cover was back in May 2015 with Moonlight Embellishment Girl. I’m still fond of that cover because I can relate to it and the beat is so groovy.

Hello, Shooting-star is my first ever solo collaboration with an instrumentalist. I sing to instrumentals all the time, but this cover was a team effort and lots of fun. Fun fact: Moonlight Sonata’s 虚言NEUROSE was also a collaboration with an instrumentalist, Wasdiop, who created the instrumental!

February will probably be tutorial month. I’ve been cooperating with Flyby on a tutorial about writing translyrics. There will be two different tutorials and it features me awkwardly talking/reading, ahaha. I’m still more comfortable singing than talking into a mic. But the tutorials will be around 7-10 minutes in length each and features awesome stickman illustrations and animations done by yours truly (i.e. don’t expect fancy smancy animation magic… but, you should be entertained). And I’m considering releasing the bloopers too because I like to make fun of myself and I get off track and start laughing randomly. I will also write a blog post to accompany the tutorials here so look out for those too.

Here’s a little preview of what it will look like:

Speaking of cooperating with other people, there *should* also be two collabs coming out in February as well! They are still in the process of being worked on. One of them is something I personally organized for a few months and it features many other singers you’re probably familiar with (yes, I get excited just talking about this mystery cover and it’s the same project I alluded to in my November post). Don’t worry, I will notify you all when it goes live, but it will be AMAZING. Trust me. I feel tempted to write about my experience and give some backstage exclusive content in a blog post in the future, if anyone is seriously interested. (Let me know in the comments!)

The other chorus is something I will feature in and that will be great too. I am sweating over the fact that there’s a lot to juggle this month and next month, so please send me your support and patience ;__;

To the SoundCloud listeners: SoundCloud has limited space and I will probably upload 4-5 more songs up there before I run out of space. At that point, I will probably stop uploading there because otherwise the older songs will be lost. I do have the option of using my FroggieSingerEXTRA account but that account is meant for outtakes and not-serious tracks, plus not everyone follows that account so it’ll be an inconvenience to SC users who follow the official account. I am debating about paying the monthly Pro subscription, but SoundCloud is expecting to switch their plans to a subscription-paid listening service later this year, so I don’t think it’s worth taking the risk. Sorry for the inconvenience! Hopefully this will get solved when SoundCloud makes their move. (Read more about their futures changes from Consequence of Sound and Stereo Gum).

Anime & Games

What’s on my past and current watch list? I recently watched One Punch Man, and Shiki. OPM was amazing, I thought it would be about classic shounen heroes and the power of friendship, but I was so glad I was wrong. I really enjoyed the allusions and parodies. Shiki was…psychological and philosophical to say the least. I can’t say I enjoyed it because after I watched the end, I wondered why I even bothered watching this series. There were also some weak points to the story and the characters hardly developed. But that’s just my opinion. I am currently watching My Love Story, Shirokuma Cafe, and Osomatsu-san! I’ve been in the mood for comedies and light hearted anime lately. If you ever have any recommendations, feel free to suggest something!

December: The End of 2015

Hello all, welcome back to my monthly blogs! I hope you had an eventful swag filled day.

korra swag.gif

December is a really busy time of the year… with finals, Christmas and holidays, and the hype for the new year. It makes me feel so tired I just want to curl up in my bed and talk a long nap, but who’s got time for that right now?

It’s time to do a Froggie Flashback! This month I released two new covers. The first one is Streaming Heart. It’s a kick ass breakup song that gives you power.
╭( ・ㅂ・)و ))) It won’t give you wings though, you’d have to drink Red Bull for that.

And the second release is Snow Fairy Story, which I thought would be great this holiday season. The song was also made for Snow Miku 2015. (Shhhhh I know the Snow Miku 2016 design already came out, but it’s still 2015 right now). The flowers you see are Lilies of the Valley, and they mean “the return of happiness”. It’s such a thoughtful design ε=(。♡ˇд ˇ♡。)

I’ve also been pretty active on FaceBook and made a year end post on there as well. It features an improvement meme and pep talk so make sure you go over there and read it. Here’s a taste of what’s there.

frog fb improvement post screenie

I still have a backlog of half finished covers to do, and yes, there are some song requests in there as well. I’ll do my best to get through them all, but you’ll have to be patient with me.

I mentioned at the end of my November blog post that I was excited to see the end of 2015 and I would tell you guys why. It’ll get a bit personal here, but 2015 hasn’t been so good to me health wise. This year I suffered through some pretty horrible things, though nothing life threatening. I remember getting my wisdom tooth extracted earlier in the year and then it later got an infection which also gave me cold symptoms. Then I caught a cold for real and singing became difficult. Later on I contracted stomach issues, and it was not fun. It was the worst year for me in terms of health. I really hope 2016 will be much better.

Personally, I liked 2014 more than 2015 because I felt like I had more freedom and I didn’t feel so self conscious. I was also busier this year so I miss being more active. I don’t see myself as popular at all, but I do acknowledge that life changes a bit when you get some popularity. I badly want to say I don’t care, but that’s not true. A part of me feels a bit excited at the idea and another part of me feels terrified. I don’t need or want to be consumed by it, but a part of me wonders if it’s necessary. Right now, I know I won’t ever feel satisfied, but I do feel content. Is that even possible?

Let’s all top both 2014 and 2015 with the new year. For everything you wish you could have done differently, do so in the coming year.

Stay safe and I’ll see you in 2016!

November: a Short Break

Another month is almost over, which means it’s almost December. When you get older, time passes by so fast. My birthday is coming up in 8 days (it’s on December 7th!)…I don’t want to get older (;´゚Д゚)ゞ Where has the youth gone. I know I’m overreacting, I’m not even that old. But anything over 20 seems ancient to me.

shocked mikan

Thank you everyone for joining me on my music journey. I learned a lot and I still have more to learn. Hehehe, look forward to it.

This month was mostly a break month, I was off adventuring into the world of NaNoWriMo and didn’t get much time to work on any projects. But now that November is almost over, it’s time to get my hands dirty on Secret Santa and holiday related stuff. There’s also been quite a few collaborations I’m involved in, those usually take much longer to complete and I’m not in full control of the process but the results are usually amazing 😉

I’m still in the process of uploading some blocked covers (due to YT red) onto Vimeo. They only allow 500mb a week, which means 1 video a week. This is incredibly limiting, but thank you for being patient!

On an awesome note, Paypal finally created a convenient way to send and receive money (ノ*゜▽゜*) I will not lie about how long the donate link used to be. But now it’s just -> paypal.me/Froggie You’re not obliged to donate, but it will go towards more equipment, gear, and um, paying off student debt.

Anime & Games

I started watching Noragami (2 episodes in) and My Love Story (1 episode in). No spoilers please (︶︹︺) I will probably get around to finishing them after my finals. One Punch Man looks pretty funny too, anyone seen it and would recommend it?

You see these awesome cats? Yes, my weakness is cuteness. I started playing Neko Atsume and it’s literally a game where you wait for cats to come and visit you. The graphics are simple and it’s not a very demanding game- perfect for the casual player.

kanpani girls

Trying out new games is something I’ve been doing more and more. The only limiting factor is that I’m a cheapo and I won’t play games that I have to pay for…unless it’s really good? But this one is also free, it’s called Kanpani Girls. Haha, it’s also new (at least for English audiences) and it’s basically an RPG game with a mercenary system where you collect girls and they fight…and they lose some clothes when they die. So be warned if that isn’t your cup of tea. I usually lose interest in games that are too repetitive. Luckily this one is like Celestial Dynasty and runs on an auto mode so I can tab out and do something else while the girls fight. I feel like this game is a combo of Love Live (collecting and leveling) and Celestial Dynasty (fighting and auto-mode).

I’m excited for December 😀 I know, I know, it’s a busy time for everybody but I look forward to ending 2015 and entering 2016! And I will tell you why next month, so please read my next blog post then. (⌒▽⌒ゞ

October: Fall

Happy Halloween~

Don’t forget it’s daylight savings tomorrow!

Let’s Talk About Covers

If you haven’t seen it already because you’ve been busying yourself with Halloween activities, my English version of Dark Woods Circus came out today. I had it planned for a while after I saw a request for it in my request list-yes, I DO check that list and cover songs that people want to hear, I just do them at my own pace- Wow that song is amazingly high and I Continue reading

September: Back to School, Back to Groove

I decided to start a personal blog so I can share more about myself with you guys, as a person and a singer. Feel free to interact with me 🙂 Here’s to an awesome start to the Froggie Blog! ٩(•̤̀ᵕ•̤́๑)ᵒᵏᵎᵎᵎᵎ Based on the responses I got on my poll, I’ll be doing a monthly blog about everyday life, games I’m playing, and of course– behind the scenes and commentary on my covers 😀 I’m still deciding when the best time to post during the month is; the beginning, the end or smack dab in the middle? Tell me which you would prefer in the comments below!

Everyday Life

It’s that time of year again. That time when buses fill out fast during morning rush hour (more than usual at least) and the classrooms are bustling with life. It’s the start of a new school year… Some of you guys (the students) will feel my pain. The Back-to-School Blues hit me pretty much on the first day. Continue reading

Thumbnails Decoded

I started using a particular style of making thumbnails for YouTube that I thought was pretty nifty. I did put in some thought into it so I thought I would make a post explaining the system today. No one’s asked me about it yet, though. Maybe because it’s easy to figure out or maybe no one’s noticed or maybe they just don’t care? Since you’re reading this, it must mean you have some level of curiosity? It’s pretty simple actually.

thumbnails decoded

Observe and be amazed! This is a simple screenshot of what you would see if you visit the videos page. I labelled the 5 different types of borders I use for my thumbnails. This is what they mean: Continue reading
